80:10:10 or 80:20

The 80:10:10 and 80:20 raw feeding ratios refer to the proportions of meat, organ, and bone (or other components) in a raw diet, primarily for dogs or cats.

The choice is yours!

Here's the difference:

80:10:10 Ratio

This is the prey model raw (PMR) approach:

  • 80% meat (muscle meat and fat)

  • 10% bone (usually raw meaty bones like chicken wings, necks, etc.)

  • 10% organs, with about 5% liver and 5% other secreting organs (like kidney, spleen)

This mimics the natural composition of prey animals.

80:20 Ratio

This is a variation often used in commercial raw food:

  • 80% meat, bone, and organ combined

  • 20% plant matter (vegetables, fruits, sometimes seeds or oils)

This is closer to the BARF (Biologically Appropriate Raw Food) model, which includes plant ingredients to provide fiber, vitamins, and antioxidants.

Key Difference:

  • 80:10:10 is stricter and mimics a carnivorous prey diet (no plants).

  • 80:20 includes fruits/vegetables, aiming for a broader nutritional profile.
